FionaMcGettigan | BIOGRAPHY

Fiona McGettigan is partner in CORE Design Studio and Associate Professor in Graphic Design at the University of Houston. Born in Ireland, Ms McGettigan received her Bachelors Degree in Art from Mercyhurst College and her Masters in Fine Art Degree in design from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan.

Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, DiverseWorks and Forum Gallery, Michigan, and published by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) and American Center for Design, Communication Arts and International Design Magazine. She has served on the board of American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA)/Texas, AIGA/Houston and Lawndale Art Center. She lectures and does workshops nationally in design and design theory, including Paper and Book Intensive, Utah, Museum of Printing History, Houston, University of Texas at Austin, and University of Edinboro, PA. Working collaboratively with Alan Krathaus, she has received grants from the Cultural Arts Council Houston/Harris County and The City of Houston for public art projects and art commissions by METRO.

Her design work and research interests reside in language and communication issues and the cross-over of design, text in the landscape, public art and architecture. She and her partner, Alan, have recently returned from a month long tour of Europe where they were doing research for a book they are writing on the use of text and language in large scale, 3-dimensional projects in the environment and landscape. Her studio focus is in commissions of print, environmental and multimedia design with a client base of cultural, educational and non-profit organizations and a variety of businesses.
